MaJoC: Getting your Filk

Martin J. Carter is a prolific author of computer filk and has given the topic much thought. Here's what he has to say about the origin of filk.

[return to Alt Lyrics]

Gotta Get Myself an iMac
To "The Battle Hymn of the Republic"

My ears have heard the tramplings of consumers in large bands
They're filling the department stores with wallets in their hands
They are wanting a computer, so they crowd the checkout stands
Just hear their hunting cry!

Gotta get myself an iMac,
No more boring beige or jet black
Looks just like a gummy bear snack
In tangerine or lime!

You know those old computers are so boring and sedate
They're "techie" and their "nerdy" and I simply can't relate
I'll get one just as flashy as the girls I like to date
So sing it to the sky!

Chorus

Pa held a fam'ly meeting to discuss the color choice
With Ma and me and Reginald and also little Joyce
"Strawbluetangerlimegrape" we all shouted with one voice
And so we bought all five!

Chorus

So with this nifty hub thing, and some cables now we can
All hook ourselves together in a rainbow colored LAN
And since there's not a one of us who's not a netgame fan
We're closer than before!

We've saved our family feeling
with our games of Quake and Doom
All sitting there together in a strange five-sided room
And when we die
we want the words "think different" on our tomb
So heed this good advice!

Go and get yourself a iMac
No more boring beige or jet black
Looks just like such a gummy bear snack
In tangerine or lime!
